The state also has a long shoreline on both sides of the Chesapeake Bay, but those coastal areas offer little in the way of waterfront camping. Beachfront campgrounds are concentrated in a handful of locations.

Eagles Roost Campground – 40 acres of woods for walking and hiking, boat launch. Some full RV hook-ups. Seasonal Sites. Eagle’s Roost is located about 3 minutes past Smith Mountain Lake State Park.
The park is quiet since everyone is at work. The grounds are all gravel and the sites are close together. However, there are both shady AND sunny spaces, so ask for your preference. The location is great, but signage would be helpful. I came off the highway and would have liked an arrow at the park entrance pointing to the office. There were two roads that could have been a possible entrance. For future reference, turn left.
